Simulation of keV clusters incident on gold targets

چکیده
Using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, Shapiro and Tombrello predicted that keV clusters containing a mixture of light and heavy atoms can eject a substantial fraction of their lighter atoms away from a target surface, a phenomenon they designate ``splash''. Recently, experiments by Diehnelt et al. and Brunelle et al. have shown evidence of ̄uorine and deuterium splash in systems of (NaF)nNa and deuterated valine, respectively, incident on gold targets. Although direct yields cannot be compared due to unknown ionization eciencies in the experiments, this paper describes further simulations which provide insight into the experimental systems. For the (NaF)nNa clusters, our results agree reasonably well with the observed trend in ̄uorine splash as a function of cluster energy but predict a dierent dependence on cluster size. For the valine system, we ®nd the same dependence of the yield on cluster size as the experiment. Ó 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved. PACS: 31.13.Qg; 34.50.Dy; 36.40.Sx

Intense emission of cluster anions from gold targets under impact of keV/u gold clusters
Under impact of 150 keV/atom Aun projectiles (1 ≤ n ≤ 9) on gold targets the emission yield of anionic clusters increases much faster with n than expected from a simple proportionality. Moreover the anion size distribution is much larger for bombardment by clusters. The cluster yield enhancements reflect the size dependence of the cluster stability according to the electronic shell structure. A...
متن کاملAssessment of a cluster of gold nanoparticles effect on cell absorbed dose using the Geant4 toolkit
Introduction: Radiotherapy plays a vital role in cancer treatment. To establish a new potency in radiosensitize tumor cells, delivery of High-Z materials is offered. To date, several simulation geometries have been applied to define simulation sets. The clustering of nanoparticles (NPs) within the cells is a prominent parameter usually ignored in simulation studies. <stro...

Objective(s): In this study we evaluate the impact of the different aspects of Gold Nano-Particles (GNPs) on the target absorptive Dose Enhancement Factor (DEF) during external targeted radiotherapy with photon beams ranging from kilovolt to megavolt energies using Monte Carlo simulation. Methods: We have simulated the interaction of photon beams wi...
متن کاملSimulation of cluster ejection following high - energy Au n Au ( 111 ) bombardment
Following the recent report by Andersen et al. of extremely large nonlinear sputtering yields caused by the bombardment of gold targets with small, high energy gold clusters [Phys. Rev. Lett. 80 (1998) 5433], we carried out simulations showing: (1) that the thermal spike phase of the collision cascade contributes significantly to these nonlinear yields; and (2) that individual 'mega-events' wit...
متن کاملA Monte Carlo Study on Dose Enhancement by Homogeneous and Inhomogeneous Distributions of Gold Nanoparticles in Radiotherapy with Low Energy X-rays
Background: To enhance the dose to tumor, the use of high atomic number elements has been proposed. Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of gold nanoparticle distribution on dose enhancement in tumor when the tumor is irradiated by typical monoenergetic X-ray beams by considering homogeneous and inhomogeneous distributions of gold nanoparticles (GNPs) in the tumor.Method...
